Fairy Jewelry

‘Every time a child says, ‘I don’t believe in fairies,’ there is a fairy somewhere that falls down dead’ said Peter Pan in J. M. Barrie’s immortal play.  So do you still believe in fairies or, as you have gotten older, have you turned into a fairy killer by voicing your disbelief?  Well I happen to still believe in fairies and all things mystical and magical, so what better way to show your appreciation of the wonder of the fairy realms than by wearing a fairy charm or a piece of fairy jewelry?  Having a fairy charm attached to your charm bracelet, or on a chain, or even attached to your mobile phone, can be a constant reminder in our humdrum daily lives that the world still contains magic and mystery, and that we never know when we are going to get showered with a little fairy dust.

Fairies in Folklore

So who are the fairies?  Fairies are mystical creatures or spirits, and are part of the folklore of Great Britain, going back many centuries.  Fairies are generally described as having a human appearance and as being very closely connected to nature.  Fairies live among the flowers in the gardens, in the fields and woodlands.  The modern picture of fairies being diminutive beings with wings that they use to fly with, only really dates from the Victorian era, when fairies were extensively painted.  According to old folklore, fairies could range from tall, radiant beings to small, wizened characters like trolls.  Fairies were once viewed as a source of trouble and misfortune to humankind, and were said to steal human babies and substitute them with changelings from the fairy realm.  A person used to protect themselves from fairies by hanging charms in their homes such as rowan or bunches of herbs, or nailing up objects made from cold iron, such as horseshoes, to repel them.

Fairies in Literature

Fairies have also been made popular in literature.  Shakespeare’s fairies in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ caused chaos in the life of the humans around them, while the famous flower fairies of Victorian times introduced the gossamer wings, pretty frocks, magic wands  and child-like faces that we associate with fairies today.  J. M Barrie gave us perhaps the most famous fairy of all when he introduced us to Tinkerbell, and Disney has brought to life many old fairy stories and given us the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, and the fairies who give good fortune and characteristics in the Sleeping Beauty.

Fairy Charms

So if you love fairies, what could be more delightful than getting a fairy charm? If you have a charm bracelet already, a fairy charm would make the perfect addition. Fairy charms can be bought in sterling silver, pewter, gold or white gold. If you would like to add some colour to your fairy, fairy charms can be found studded with crystals or even enamelled in bright, vibrant colours. You can get fairy charms where the fairy is posed standing, flying, lying down or sitting. If you have a special friend or loved one who collects charms, what better gift could you choose for them than a magical fairy charm? Fairy charms make especially lovely gifts for little girls. Get your favourite little girl her very first charm bracelet, and an enchanting fairy charm to attach to it. The fairy charm could also be one of her favourite characters, like a Tinkerbell fairy charm or a tooth fairy charm. The really lucky thing about fairy charms is that there is a wide selection available to choose from online, so picking out your favourite fairy charm couldn’t be easier. Have a browse on Amazon, as they have a wide range of fairy charms in all sorts of different designs and to suit very budget.

Fairy Pendants and Fairy Necklaces

Fairy jewelry is perhaps more for day wear or a casual night out, and one of the most popular choices of fairy jewelry is a fairy pendant or necklace. Again, you can choose your fairy necklace in your preferred choice of precious metal, as they can be made of sterling silver, pewter, white gold or yellow gold. The fairy on your pendant can be dancing, flying, sitting or lying pensively with her chin in her hand! Fancier ones can have two-tone yellow gold over white gold or silver. If it is colour you are after, you can choose fairy pendants and necklaces that have been enamelled in bright colours or set with coloured gemstones. If you are choosing your pendant or necklace as a birthday present, why not find a fairy pendant or necklace that is studded with their birthday stone? Fairy pendants and necklaces can be surprisingly affordable, so can make good stocking fillers for a little girl or teenager at Christmas, or as a special gift for a friend. Or you can splash out and get a fairy pendant or necklace that is real gold and set with diamonds, or coloured gemstones like rubies, sapphires or emeralds. There are all types of fairy charms and necklaces online, so choosing couldn’t be easier.

Bring Magic Into Your Life With Fairy Jewelry

Of course, if you have a fairy necklace or pendant, it would be very rude not to have matching bracelet, ring or earrings! You can find a huge selection online, so you will quickly find a pair of fairy earrings or bracelet that match your necklace or pendant. A pair of these earrings makes a charming gift for a loved one or friend, or why not treat yourself to a pair to help bring some magic into your life? You really can find all types of fairy jewelry online including fairy rings, fairy belly button rings and engraved fairy lockets.

Fairy jewelry is all about fun and magic. You simply cannot take yourself too seriously if you have a cute pair of fairies dangling from your ears or a little silver fairy grinning at you from your charm bracelet. Fairy jewelry connects you back to your childhood sense of wonder and magic, and helps you stay open to all the amazing things that the world has to offer.
